The People Who Make Audio Happen: Rock’N’R’Olivia & Roni Lee’s Pre-NAMM All Star Rooftop Jam

As noted in the last issue, NAMM is the world's biggest music industry trade show, filled with instruments, artists, concerts, parties, and people. It’s a big event, ranging from the trade show itself to seminars, events, awards ceremonies, and of course, parties. One of the bigger ones is the annual Rock’N’R’Olivia & Roni Lee’s Pre-NAMM All Star Rooftop Jam, where rockers, exhibitors and attendees gather for an after-hours good time. (Roni is pictured in the header image.)

Here's a look, in photos and captions.

Lynn Sorensen (Bad Company and Paul Rodgers) rocks out on violin.

The players had a spectacular view from the rooftop stage.

Hair and makeup artist Amber Marquez was on hand to sell the performers' vinyl and CDs.

Nolan Richards of Garden of Eden killed it on the drums!

Jonesy Jones of Pulp Vixen was one of the most energizing performers of the night, the only ones to bring horns to a gun fight.

C’mon, admit it, there’s nothing sexier than a great beard, great hair, and a great big blue guitar! Here Brandon Rash from the band Electric Ash nails it.

The legendary Tommy Heath of Tommy Tutone treated us to a killer version of "867-5309/Jenny," and every single person knew the words that night.

Roni Lee in her element.

Here are Eric Pascal and Jorge Palacios from the Roni Lee Group and Rick Springfield, and John Butler (alias Boogie Knights' guitarist J. J. Vernon Wood).

Some Southern California rock and roll energy!

Cleveland, Ohio musician Phyllis Deleva with an admirer (left) and guitarist extraordinaire Larry Mitchell (right).

Bassist Sean McNabb holds down the low end. In addition, he's a hot guitarist in demand and a well-known actor. A few of the bands and artists he's played with why sure! How about Dokken, Quiet Riot, Great White, Montrose, Don Felder, Gilby Clarke, and Rhino the Band to name a few?

Pulp Vixen was on fire that night.

Koji Brash, leader of the band Brash Beat, was in rare form.

Koko Powell has played bass and contributed vocals for Spencer Davis, Edgar Winter, Lenny Kravitz and others.

Nolan Richards, drummer for Kyle Rising and Donny Meowz, with a group of friends.

Koji Brash enjoys a moment with guitarist Ros E. Tanaka.
