Hear the Quality!

Hear the Quality!

Let's face it, not many audio components are as iconic as a McIntosh MC275 vacuum-tube power amplifier. This all-time classic was made from 1961 to circa 1970 and was reissued in 1993. It's still available today with updates like modern speaker terminals. Courtesy of Wikimedia Commons/Sebastian Nizan.

You knew you were getting quality with these circa 1960s Philips components, at least according to the ad.

It's never too early for CD player nostalgia: this Marantz CD-73 was one of the first to be introduced, in 1983. The odd-looking display was a track indicator, and the slide-out disc mechanism was clunky but effective.

OK tape heads, what's wrong with this picture? It's a 1970s Akai 4000DS. Your author owned one until he eventually played it to destruction using it as an on-stage tape delay unit for guitar.

You can take it with you, especially if you have a circa 1960s Grundig Majestic AM/FM/short wave portable radio.
