I previously shared photos in this space of the Axxess Forte 1 streaming integrated amplifier/digital-to-analog converter (in Issue 207). Along with Aavik, Ansuz, and Børresen, Axxess is a brand of Audio Group Denmark. These brands make sexy products, often in black, that can sometimes be difficult to photograph.
Fortunately, unlike the Forte 1, Ansuz’ PowerSwitch D3 network switch ($6,600) contains no shiny surfaces and its sexy curved and flowing lines more than warrants a photo session. As far as performance, Ansuz’ website contains comprehensive descriptions of the proprietary technologies that are incorporated into the D3. Those include the use of a heavy, resonance-resistant cabinet made of a “natural-based composite material,” several different types of active and passive noise-cancelling circuits, which Anzus calls “Tesla coils,” and analog dithering circuitry to reduce electrical noise.
For my part, I can say that the D3 improved the performance of my system in virtually every way. Further, its effects weren’t subtle. Note that performance at this level doesn’t come cheap. The D3 does not come with a power cord. You just might want to pair it with something like Anzus’ X-TC3 power cord ($1,400/meter).
