Perhaps one of the greatest innovations in our computer-centric society is Control-Z.
Undo what you just did and try again.
In fact, I am so used to the freedom this allows me that I instinctively reach for Control-Z in real life. And, of course, that doesn't work.
Dang! Now I have to remember what was and try and go back.
When I am working on building a system or a product, one of the hard won life lessons for me is taking enough time to document my A/B choices so I can go back to the start.
My Control-Z.
It can be as simple as a roll of blue tape to mark the starting position for my speakers, to as complex as fully duplicating the device under test so I always have a fallback position.
If something is worth improving it's worth making sure you can press your own Control-Z.
