Musical chairs

We all know that pulling the speakers away from the front wall improves imaging.

But not everyone has the space—or the domestic negotiation skills—to do it. If your speakers must stay close to the wall, there’s still a way to get a more immersive soundstage:

Move your listening chair closer.

This puts you in a near-field position, where the direct sound from the speakers dominates over room reflections. It minimizes the negative effects of boundaries, standing waves, and other acoustic gremlins. The result? A more precise, holographic image where the speakers disappear.

It’s a simple trick, but it works.

If you can’t move the speakers, move yourself.
