Sacred cows
In Hinduism and vegetarianism cows are to be treated with respect, not eaten. In our everyday lexicon, the term sacred cows refer more to ideas and concepts we hold near and dear. Are we good with our long-held convictions? Do some materials sound better than others? Do we believe we can hear the difference between a gold plated RCA connector and the same covered in nickel? What do we hold as truth and why? Is it worth taking a fresh look at some of our assumptions? And if so, which ones? How many of us still cling to the idea that MQA compression sounds better than the lossless version of the same track? And why? At times, I think it's worthwhile to take a step back and recheck some of those cherished beliefs—to make sure they still hold water. Those that stand the test of time are likely more valuable at reinforcing our worldview than the sometimes knee-jerk observations that feel right at the time but, over the long haul, sometimes prove to be fleeting.
