On a recent trip to France, Terri and I had the opportunity to look around at what passes for stereo equipment in European homes and we were reminded of the size constraints in these smaller abodes.
As Americans, it's easy to get blindsided by size. Our homes are typically larger (along with our appetites!)
I think it's incumbent upon us designers to have a more global perspective of the world marketplace. Of course, there's no "right" size, but it's also easy to fall into the homegrown trap of believing the global market is just like where you live.
I am really lucky to be able to travel and enjoy learning. I think it's a good eye opener to get out of one's own backyard and see what the rest of the world sees.
The fringe benefits? Seeing the robust retail environment (relative to our own declining shops) and sampling the food and wine…ooo, la, la!
