Ignorance is bliss
The old saying ignorance is bliss means if you don't know about something you don't have to worry about it. That's probably true but it's not something I ascribe to. Ignorance is simply a lack of knowledge and when that occurs in a field we have some measure of interest in, like music or hifi, we're not better off for the lack of worry, we're worse off for the deprivation of information. Not knowing how a proper stereo setup should sound doesn't make a terribly setup system sound right. Your ears are still offended. They just don't know why. During this holiday season, it might make us feel good to share our knowledge of the stereo arts with someone ignorant of what great sound in service of music can offer. After all, 'tis the season of giving and the gift of knowledge is the greatest of them all.
