Holding ourselves back
Have you ever noticed how good we are at procrastination? When it comes to making change I often hem and I haw. I wait for the right moment: a sign; when I am feeling better; when time allows; when the weather changes; when it feels right; when I can squeeze it in; when the review publishes. Of course, this litany of maybes is nothing more than our lizard (Triune) brains fighting change. That little voice in your head. You know the one that scolds you, encourages you, warns you. The little voice that says "Oh, what the hell, one more bite isn't going to kill me." Over the years I have come to treasure the battle with my little voice. I rarely follow its advice, instead, realizing life's short enough as it is, so let's go for it. When I want to try the new cable, the bigger amp, the high-resolution streaming service that's been nagging at me, I am much more likely today to give it a shot then I was even a few years ago. Sometimes it's wise to hold ourselves back, but often it's just a missed opportunity. At my age, I don't want to look back with regrets.
