Have you ever seen one of those infra red photographs where everything looks strangely surrealistic? Colors are displayed by their heat readings rather than how they reflect light.
We imagine the world we see, hear, feel, and breathe is "it". Reality. Just the way everything is.
Of course that's completely incorrect. The world looks and sounds the way our limited range of senses presents it to us. Imagine how the world must be like for a bat who hasn't much ability to register light but possesses an amazing auditory map system using ultrasonics.
Our interpretations of the world are often influenced by unseen and unheard forces: standing waves impacting bass response, megahertz digital noise changing the music we hear, heat, humidity, and air pressure changes how our systems sound.
It's perhaps helpful to remember that while our tiny slice of the universe seems real enough, it's all got to be taken with a grain of salt.
We're only partially in control.
