Tunnel lights

There's the old joke that one hopes the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an approaching train (something that actually happened to me and my son Sean once, but that's another story, one we're able to retell because we were fast on our feet).

I am often asked what the end goal is when it comes to building a HiFi system. For some, it's more the journey than the destination, while others are trying to reach a point where music's alive and breathing in their room.

For me it's transitory. For my listening pleasures I go from happy as could be—not giving a hoot about updates and furthering system performance—to head down making progress: moving the bar higher, pegging the needle a little harder.

I can go either way and everywhere in between.

Sometimes it's alright to just vacillate between happy, satisfied, and lusting for more.

Maybe life's not a constant.

It certainly keeps it more interesting if I just go with the flow.
