Critical listening

One of the great rewards of having everything in the system dialed in is the chance to relax and enjoy the music.

No longer is it important to pay attention to tiny details, to stress about tonal balance or imaging. We can just bask in the glory of the music.

Critical listening is a great and useful skill we need to employ when we're setting up our systems or evaluating a new piece of gear. But then, we need to remind ourselves to turn it off and shelve it for the next time it's needed.

Relaxing and enjoying, letting go of the angst of striving for perfection, is the ultimate goal.
