As we get deeper into Octave Records I am reminded of an interview I did a few years ago with mastering engineer Bernie Grundman.
Bernie is one of the most famous mastering engineers in the business.
As I relistened to the episode, recorded about this time of the year back in 2018, I was reminded about the importance of mastering by pros like Bernie and our own Gus Skinas.
As Bernie suggests, the final mix of EQ and compression can make or break a record. By simple EQ Bernie suggests he can create tension or sweetness: whatever the music needs.

Though we all like to imagine our best recordings are as pure as the driven snow, the truth is quite different.
