When we see new products come off the showroom floor, we're thrilled. Shiny, new, and ready for your living room.
Rarely do we think about what went into their creation. In our case, the typical turnaround time from idea to finished product is stretching into 2 years. That's a lot of manhours of engineering to bring the new into the light of day.
Hardest for me is sitting on the new product without sharing. It feels like we're little gnomes laboring in the dark without sharing the joys and wonders of the development process.
Over the years, I have gotten so used to the ups and downs, the failures and successes of bringing into the light a new product, that I forget why we quietly work away at those new wonders. Folks naturally want to experience only the successes.
And who can blame them?
The process we and our fellow manufacturers go through is just part of the deal of imagining, designing, engineering, building, testing, and re-testing a product before it reaches your living room.
It's good to remember that the process is the journey and why we're here.
