If the majority of people listening to music don't care about quality why would the high end audio market make sense? After all, wouldn't we have a bigger marketplace if we dived into the deep end of the market instead?
Most high-end audio companies aren't in business to change the world.
We're more invested in catering to a smaller niche group of music lovers that care about what they listen to and how it sounds.
People like us.
I don't consider it over the top to serve a small and caring audience. In fact, I think it is the only reason we are here, investing our lives into this enterprise.
Some hope to take over the world while others are honored to serve a small group of like minded people.
Count me in the latter.
