One of the things I dearly love about our community is the questions I get asked. They are always so interesting.
Would transcoding a person's MP3 library to DSD be a good idea from a quality and archival standpoint?
What I love about this question is its innocence.
DSD is a far superior format to MP3. So it only makes sense that converting your library from an inferior format to a superior one should be a great way to go.
Only it doesn't really accomplish anything.
Upconversion from lossy data doesn't add new information that was never there in the first place in the same way that printing a book on expensive paper doesn't add anymore words than that same manuscript printed on cheap pulp.
In the end, it's a great question.
Thanks.
