Living the dream
In the more than 40 years I have been building audio products my enthusiasm for what we do has never waned. In fact, quite the opposite. I wake up excited about each new day and another opportunity to spend time with our community and team at PS. I am one lucky guy.
And sometimes I daydream about fanciful products that will likely never see the light of day because they're either too far out there, too hard to build, or no one would want them. My invisible stereo product's a pretty good example. Are you familiar with the heads-up display technology just now entering the automotive space? An image of vital information like speed, direction, and warnings appears to magically float outside the vehicle—and is seen only by the driver. This is useful because you never have to take your eyes off the road. In my daydream product, I imagine the clutter of boxes we call a stereo system are somehow hidden while the music's information: track title, cover art—and equipment status and control: volume, input selected—float at a comfortable point in space in front of you. A wave of a hand or perhaps voice command changes tunes or volume levels.
Crazy, right?
One idea that has long been with me that just might have some legs is my Leggo stereo kit where customers design their own dream system mixing and matching pre-engineered modules to suit their wildest desires. That one just might be something people would like because it combines our needs for customization along with the fun of assembling a new device unique to each person.
I have no idea how to build it.
