Details matter

Details matter

There's a trap in high-end audio, and I've watched smart, experienced listeners fall into it repeatedly.

They chase detail at the expense of realism.

A system optimized purely for resolution can sometimes become a very expensive instrument of torture.

The problem is that far too often, maximum resolution means treble emphasis, because that's where fine detail lives. Tilt too far that direction and you hear more detail but at the expense of everything else.

And it's fatiguing.

The systems that stop you in your tracks — that make you forget there's a stereo in the room — find the balance. Perfect resolution to feel like you're in the space with the musicians, wrapped in warmth and dynamic life and real rhythmic drive. When Chris and Darren voiced the Aspen speakers, that tension between resolution and musicality was the central question at every stage.

Detail serves the music. You just have to make sure you're not turning up the treble to get it.
