There are a couple of things we do not want to open: Pandora's Box and cans of worms.
Why? Because unexpected and (maybe) unwanted artifacts are said to come crawling out, forcing us to spend time and energy putting them back in their containers.
Unless, of course, those worms are simply new ideas and means of addressing problems we haven't yet dealt with.
Before you shy away from using a can opener on those worms, ask yourself the question. Is it that I am happy with the status quo or do I fear having to deal with progress?
The answer is important.
