Baking sourdough seems simple—just water, flour, salt, and starter. How hard could it be? But then you realize the variables: fermentation time, hydration levels, room temperature, even the way you shape the dough. My first loaf was a dense, gummy disaster. Loaf after loaf, each a little better than the last, I learned from my mistakes.
If you're not making mistakes you're not pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
As audiophiles it's inevitable we're going to make mistakes. We buy gear based on hype instead of listening for ourselves. We obsess over one small change while ignoring bigger problems, like room acoustics. We convince ourselves that more expensive always means better.
But here’s the thing: mistakes are how we grow. Every misstep teaches us something—about our system, about our ears, about what really matters. The pursuit of great sound isn’t a straight line; it’s a winding road of trial and error. And that’s okay.
The important thing is to keep listening, keep experimenting, and most of all, keep enjoying the music.
