Streaming vs. engagement

Streaming vs. engagement

Convenience has never been the same thing as engagement.

Streaming has given us access to nearly every piece of recorded music ever made. It’s astonishing. With a few taps, you can move from a 1950s jazz quartet to a brand-new symphonic release.

And yet...

...I still understand why so many of us are drawn to physical media, like SACDs, CDs, or vinyl. It’s not nostalgia alone. It’s involvement. When you handle a disc you’re committing to an experience. You’re less likely to skip tracks.

You listen to the album as a cohesive work.

In the end, it’s not analog versus digital. It’s about connection.

Technology changes. The desire to feel the music does not.
