If you take a digital audio file and transfer it over to Poly Vinyl Chloride, it takes on a certain magic.
Is it the grooves in the record? The cartridge and its sound?
What is it about vinyl that removes the digital stigma and gives permission to folks to enjoy music again?
I cannot tell you the number of times I have had fellow audiophiles wave an album in my face as proof of the superiority of vinyl only to then be told that record started out life as digital.
Doesn't seem to matter.
Maybe we have it all wrong. Maybe what's needed in the latest DAC is a vinyl filter that modifies the sound just enough to be pleasing. It wouldn't be pure but it sure might be enjoyable.
