When your spouse starts remodeling, you learn two things fast: nothing is safe, and you’re about to get a new job.
In my case? Curator.
Terri’s been giving PS Audio’s headquarters a full makeover—new paint, new carpet, new energy. And as part of the transformation, she carved out a fresh space for something near and dear to my heart: our vintage audio museum.
There’s something about old gear that still gets me. The big knobs. The glowing meters (yes, we too had meters on our power amps and power generators). The simplicity. These weren’t just products—they were statements. And even though we’ve come a long way since those early designs, a lot of that vintage gear still has something to say.
Of course, they don't measure up to today’s standards. Noise floors were higher, distortion was less shy, and specs… well, they were often more suggestion than science. But some of those pieces were—and still are—musically engaging in a way that surprises me even now.
Modern gear may outperform vintage on paper—and believe me, our new Signature line leaves nothing on the table—but there’s a reason we keep a museum. The past isn’t just about nostalgia. It’s about honoring the voices that came before.
Because sometimes the gear that started it all? Still has more to teach us.
