“I’m ready for my closeup, Mr. Doris.” This little (2 inches from nose to tip of tail) western fence lizard managed to get between the screen and the glass door. These lizards are the most common variety in California, and they are also known as “swifts” or “bluebellies”; the latter is due to the bands of bright blue on each side of their abdomen. After he climbed about four feet, I helped him get back to the great outdoors.
