  1. Absolutely 100% agree. This all relates to system synergies and the fundamental properties of each component and their sound signature.
Great answer, Paul. You’re always on your game. 🙂

  2. Synergy is the goal, nothing more or less. !
(This, unfortunately, has become most relevant with silver and the ‘adulterous’ “silver plated”interconnects and cables).

  3. Additionally, after you have gone to all the trouble to make your system synergistic, you change one component and you have to do it all over again. But that’s the fun of it, isn’t it?

  4. You can have synergy between three average components and the best you would get is average sound. Sometimes you can find a killer stereo receiver that has great synergy because the designer wired the internal components to work as one and also designed a great circuit. If each section within the receiver were poorly designed no amount of synergy will make it sound great. The same is true with separates. Three average sounding separate components made by the same designer might have been designed for synergy between components but not sound that great. Or they could have been designed for synergy and sound great regardless of price. I don’t believe that all you need to do is use the best parts and you will get the best sound. There is a certain amount of art that also goes into the design that separates great sounding components and speakers from average sounding components and speakers. Buy the best components whether separates or integrated that you can find based on your listening experiences or reviews that you trust. You have to know what you’re listening for before you know whether it’s there or not. You have synergy in a three way speaker when all three drivers sound as one but that is not the only thing that separates a great speaker from an average one.The same holds true in electronic components.
