  • Design

ThunderBird 48 features 10% Silver-Plated Copper conductors and drains that have been direction-controlled for the most efficient dissipation of radio-frequency noise; high-loss graphene is added to the carbon layer, sandwiched between layers of metal around the 4 FRL + eARC pairs, and a "global" high-loss carbon layer is placed around all conductors.

  • Application

Not all HDMI cables can transmit the full 18Gbps of data required to optimize today’s HDMI 2.0 equipment, but AudioQuest ThunderBird 48 HDMI cables are guaranteed to have the 18Gbps required for all possible HDMI data streams, including I2S high-definition audio through PS Audio's interface.

    Technology

Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high-frequency applications, like HDMI audio. These signals, being such a high frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. As the surface is made of high-purity silver, the performance is very close to that of a solid silver cable, but priced much closer to solid copper cable. This is an incredibly cost effective way of manufacturing very high-quality HDMI cables.
