Wasting time

Isn't it interesting how each of us chooses to spend our time? Just yesterday I spent the better part of an entire beautiful summer's day recording in my backyard Ask Paul videos. I had fun and enjoyed the time spent. Or take PS engineer Darren Myers, who spent the better part of his week with the PerfectWave Phono prototype listening to different brands of resistors. A waste of his time? Naysayers from the camp that denies parts sound different would certainly think he's wasting his time. On the other hand, those who have experienced the differences parts make would applaud his time spent. Which is right? What we believe to be true or false in our noisy heads is based on the stories we tell ourselves. Those stories are built over years of personal experience and apply only to us—yet, we like to believe they represent a universal truth. What would happen if we each gave a little more credence to the stories in other people's heads? Would deniers be a little less adamant and agree'rs less righteous? If what we choose to spend our time on is moving us forward, then I would argue it is not a waste of our most precious resource.
