The power of song
Terri and I were recently watching a YouTube documentary on old Route 66. Boy, did that bring back some memories.
As a lad, my grandmother Elsie packed me and my two sisters into her 1952 Chevrolet and drove us from Southern California to Saint Louis Missouri, and back again along Route 66: Burma Shave signs, diners, old motels with "sanitized" drinking glasses wrapped in paper (for your safety). It remains a wonderful memory of a bygone past.
In the video, the travelers find themselves in Winslow Arizona and, what I found remarkable, was the only reason you and I both know the name of that city.
"Well, I'm standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see. It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford slowin' down to take a look at me.''
Thanks to musician Glen Frey and his band, The Eagles, a town becomes iconic.
That's the power of song.
Songs and music change culture.
Let us never forget the power of music.
