Peeling back the onion

We often find that sonic improvements result in more information being present: sometimes we hear that which we did not at first, or there's better separation of instruments, better depth, etc.

The thing is there can be on new information. What's on the disc is being presented in full. So, what is it we're hearing when presented with new information? Less sonic clutter.

I like to think of it as peeling back another layer of the onion. With each layer newly exposed we see deeper into the music, obscured less than before.

Onions and stereo equipment have many layers that can be removed.

It's how we get to the heart of it all.
