Only so much time

Some very valued members of our community were not happy I wrote about this USB device I experimented with and I think I understand why. Conflict.

Conflict happens when two or more ideas clash over a long period of time. More than simple disagreement, a conflict seems to happen when worldviews collide. In my world I try a number of different paths towards a central goal: building equipment that is easy to use, stellar to listen to, and affordable to own. And sometimes that path is one others have travelled and recommended to me at a time when it didn't seem to make sense to explore or perhaps I didn't have the time or interest. I am, after all, mercurial by nature.

Each of us gets excited about this or that path at times different than others and that's the way it should be. People beat on me to try things I haven't any interest in, then all of a sudden a light bulb goes off and that changes, or stays forever dim. Take DSP for loudspeaker correction. I understand it, I have heard it help things, I have been interested for several decades, and harangued to support it by the brightest in the field. Yet, I have little interest. And I bet there's ten other technologies that are worthy of consideration as well.

There's only so much time.
