The People Who Make Audio Happen: Capital Audiofest Edition

Copper is fortunate to have photographer/journalist/writer Harris Fogel on its staff. He is in the top echelon of people who apply their photographic talents to the audio and music industries, and has an artist’s eye for capturing people in the moment. We’ve been featuring his work over the past few years at audio shows, dealer events, recording studios, and other happenings. We’ll continue to do so in this series, The People Who Make Audio Happen…and throw in some gear as well. This is Copper, after all, and we love gear!

Here are some of the people who exhibited at and attended the last Capital Audiofest. For additional coverage, please see our articles in Issue 214 and Issue 213.

Here are a few people who know a thing or two about system setup, and running audio shows: Dale Stultz, Norman Varney (AV Room Service), Mark Freed (AXPONA), Michael Trei (Stereophile, and noted turntable setup expert), and J.R. Boisclair (WallyTools).

Laurence Borden and Gary Koh of Genesis Advanced Technologies, makers of some serious planar/hybrid loudspeakers that hearken back to the original Infinity IRS V. They also offer electronics, cables, and other products.

The Thuono Audio/Grandinote/Kimber Kable room wowed our editor. Here are Eleonora Bonollo, Mattia Rigon, Max Magri, and Lonny Gould proudly showing off some of their gear.

Here's Randy "The Cheap Audio Man" Messman, attending and recording one of the many seminars at the show.

Charles Port makes a point about the exceptional Linkwitz loudspeakers.

Cambridge Audio showed a full line of new and recently-introduced components. Proudly showing off their wares are Rob Baretich, Steve Novakowski, and Simon-Osborne Walker.

Lucca Chesky's LC1 loudspeakers made a big splash at the show. Chesky Audio offers them at $999/pair, and they offer big sound from small enclosures.

Three guys in snappy shirts enjoying a break at the Stenheim/Vinnie Rossi Audio booth: Vinnie Rossi, Alan Taffel (The Absolute Sound), and Frank Doris (Copper). If you look good, you feel good!

Industrial art: here's a top view of a Margules U-280 SC 30th Anniversary Edition LTD power amplifier featuring Class A, zero-feedback operation.

PS Audio's own Scott McGowan spends some time with May Anwar and Lubomir Dostal of M101, named after the Messier 101/Pinwheel Galaxy.

We think these guys know a thing or two about audio: Boris Meltsner (Amped America), Roy Hall (Music Hall), and David Salz (Wireworld).

A new generation of audiophiles were out in full force in the VPI Industries rooms.

Jose Ramirez takes a break from the Dr. Vinyl/Linear Tube Audio/Sound Lab room.

Passing the torch: Harry and Mat Weisfeld share a generational love of music at one of the VPI rooms. Here they display a mighty Avenger direct-drive turntable.

Brian “Woody” Stout (Woody’s Soundup) and Jason Messina of Audiophile Junkie were two of the many press people who attended the show.

Red reign: electronics from AGD Productions, featuring the company's exclusive GaNTube gallium arsenide amplification technology.

Stunning craftsmanship: Buff Colchagoff of Eastern Bay Sound shows off the new Southwind loudspeaker and its nautical design elements.
