AC power technology is well over a century old and was never designed to meet the exacting standards of today’s high resolution audio-video components. AC noise is at the utility source, and is made worse by the component power supply. This creates distortion and low-level signal losses via the “masking effect.” The AQ NRG-Y3 power cable solves this problem by the use of a Semi-Solid Concentric conductor arrangement in which strands are packed more tightly and never change position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces strand interaction distortion. The greater purity and less complicated grain structure within Long-Grain Copper conductors further reduces distortion. Design

Power amplifiers present a real challenge for any AC power source. No matter how perfect an AC power source, distortion is added within any AC cable. Even the most sophisticated filters and power supplies cannot eliminate this Transient Intermodulation Distortion (TIM) as the induced RF noise modulates the low-level audio/video signal. Thus, it is critical to keep noise out and unrestricted current flowing into the equipment. With the AQ NRG-Y3 the goals of low noise and high current delivery are perfectly matched to Sprout's needs.

Application

AQ's NRG-Y3 works great for Sprout, and for source equipment connected to Sprout. The transient current requirements (though short in duration) of a power amplifier can be many times that of the average (RMS) current consumption. NYG-Y3 overcomes this problem through the use of superior construction techniques and purity of conductors. It won't take more than one listen to discover the difference NRG-Y3 makes.

Uncompressed High-Current Transfer

While many AC power cables feature low DC resistance in order to accommodate the demand for high current, a cable’s characteristic impedance is also crucial for optimal performance. Unlike most AC cables that constrict or compress an audio-provoked transient, AudioQuest's NYG-Y3 AC cable combines low DC resistance and ZERO (no characteristic) impedance in order to deliver uncompressed high-current transients on demand.

Keeping Noise Low

AC Ground wires provide protection from current-wiring faults, but they also act as antennas. Thus, they are subject to induced radio-frequency (RF) noise. This RF noise bypasses component power supplies and is typically coupled directly into a system’s most sensitive audio/video circuits. Using direction-controlled Silver-Plated shield conductors efficiently drains RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground via the third “ground” pin.
