Why don’t your products feature a subwoofer output?

  1. Paul, as a further extension of Bob’s question above, I currently have 2 subs in my stereo system drawing their signal from the speaker outputs of a PS Audio S300 stereo amp (as I believe you frequently recommend, rather than from the preamp). The L/R outputs are connected to the L/R inputs of the first sub, and then, as that sub also has L/R outputs, they are daisy chained to the second sub. I often see a reference to “stereo subs”. Is that different from my setup and if so, how are they wired differently and is it better than what I have done?

    1. I am not sure that’s the way I would recommend. Stereo subs are the way to go if you have two and each has a high level input. Sounds like yours do.

Take the time to run a separate cable from either the speaker binding posts (if they’re closest to the subs) or the amplifier binding posts from one channel to one sub. Then repeat on the other side.

The problem of what you’re now doing is the L and R channels are being summed into mono for each side so while you have two subs they are not taking advantage of the stereo separation.

      1. Vandersteen subs are the perfect solution when it comes to 2 channel for dialing in the bass portion of the signal for a seem less integration to your main speakers which are not active in the bass portion of their builds.

      2. Although I have 2 subs, due to room/furniture restrictions they are not in a typical location in near proximity to the L/R fronts. One is near field to the right of my listening position. The other is in the rear left corner of the room, 5ft from the listening position. In light of that, would stereo subs really make a difference? Also, how do you get stereo impact from sub frequencies that are supposed to be non-directional?
