  1. Paul…. that was excellent! That explained a great deal for me.

    I fiddled with swapping op-amps a few years ago in what turned out to be a great sounding preamp. Ended up using Muses 01’s.
    But, I was told that discrete would sound better. Not so fast.

    The one thing though that I found most benefited the end result was to prep the socket and pins with DeoxIt. And, then VERY carefully to coat each pin *very thinly* with audiophile SilClear silver gel. VERY thin as to not cause a short. Later to be told that doing it that way, was coming closest to having the chip soldered to the socket.

    I also listened with other preamps with discrete. Its just different. Its all about what one prefers to hear.

    I was also advised that for lower noise on output stages discrete is the way to go.
