    1. I am not an expert in the field but I have read a lot of articles and watched many videos on the subject of digital vs. vinyl. I also own a good analogue set with fully tube amplification (including tube phono pre-amp). My view of the differences (without falling into the trap of which one is better) is that apart the obvious technological differences between digital and analogue, there is one aspect that is hardly mentioned: the signal path is very different from one another. The phono pre-amp and the output amp of the DAC each has its own distinct sound signature and this alone can make a huge difference. Additionally, vinyl undergoes a different mastering than digital which also contribute to the different sound.

    2. I wouldn’t think so. The RIAA curve unwinds the opposite curve that is used to cut the album. The net result should be flat. If anything it hinders LPs. When I was designing these phono stages we could always hear an improvement each time we go the curve closer in tolerance. It’s not trivial. It covers 40dB!

  1. I have a benz microglide cartridge, SME arm and SOTA Saphire turntable. All very vintage. I have been using a PH3 Audio Research photo pre till early this year. I purchased PS Audio Stellar Phono Preamp a few months ago. My record playback is much improved. More clarity, depth, and better harmonic detail. So new is better then vintage in my opinion.

  2. Try adding a BHK preamp and BHK amp!! My records as well as my CDs sound live. Even played very high volume there is a smooth quality. (I also have a SOTA Sapphire and a PSStellar phono preamp). I have a Hana moving coil cartridge on an Accuphase uni pivot arm
