Is high end audio a niche product?

  1. The promise of high end audio is the presentation of a holographic sound image with highest tonal accuracy. Are these qualities relevant when listening to the daily news? Or when driving a car – maybe it might be most dangerous when suddenly hearing strange sounds coming from the rear? Or when dancing? Or when attending a live event in a huge stadium or opera house? The music mixed for 2- or multi channel audio thus already is a niche product and only a few sound engineers are able to create a high end mix.

  2. Yep, and most of your car stereo buffs are pumping out house shaking bass from the street drowning out the midrange. Many people don’t even care about accuracy. It’s more about power and over emphasized bass. If they heard an accurate system they would say it sucks.

  3. LOL, good explanation Paul about the “purist” audiophile. In my 77 years I have met only 1 person that possibly fits this description (outside of the pros who have devoted their lives to audio). Typically, reading too many forums would certainly give you another impression.

  4. I can remember, when I was a 10 year old little boy, my mom would try to push those little pocket transistor radios on me.
But the sound of those things, weren’t my cup of coffee.
For one thing, they were always in mono.
Another thing, there was no excitement to listening to them.
No bass, no mid range, or anything like that.
Long story short, I hated them!
And so, I reclamed the stereo system that my dad got me, when I was two.
I packed it and all four of the speakers up, and took it to school witth me.
Because, if I had to go to a school that was far away from my home, my high quolity sound, was going with me.
That’s what it’s all about with me.
High quality sound, and sonic detail.
The more of it, the better for me.
