The LEDR-Test gives a phantastic impression of stage depth and height. However the results vary extremely with the degree of tilting the head and thus changing the effective HRTF. It is mandatory to cancel or strongly minimize all reflections from ceiling and floor - the latter is rarely found in dealer’s show rooms..
I discovered very early the power of Shun Mook. I have the quartet spacial control in my room which endows the entire front wall àlmost up to the ceiling with soundstage, as well as lateral width.
IMHO and experience Paul, you and Luke describe Exactly what I have worked towards these past 40 years...Stereo Soundstage Reproduction that presents natural width, height and depth of the recording in my music listening room. I've been close for a very long time, but till this year, that extreme and precise "2-channel holographic magic" has eluded me in my efforts.
Believe with the extreme fine tuning of my dedicated music room, "best" setup placement & arrangement of my 2-way monitors and minor tweaking of my source interconnects, I'm FINALLY There!! My small room boundaries no longer hold back the soundstage...if the acoustical venue source calls for 60' width, 100' depth and 30' height, then It's THERE, in my 90sf room, all in the proper space and size captured in the recording! Imaging and placement of the musicians, instruments or vocals appear as real and lifelike as any live musical performances I've ever heard!
Throughout hours on end listening sessions, each genre of music, each well recorded song constantly amazes me (and others) with naturalism, realism and fidelity that melts away any and all perceptions of the artificially recreated performance. When you speak of the attributes and goals of reproduced music in PSA's sound rooms, I can't help but relate to those descriptions with my current listening environment!! Maybe I'm just too weird...but then we both would be... 😉
As you've stated, Most people have no idea what we are talking about...Till they Hear it for themselves!
