Wireless speakers getting closer

Reasearchers at Intel and startup company Witricity demonstrated a tuned magnetic power source that sends the power for the loudspeaker through the air using magnetic waves at 7mHz. While crude in its current form, the technology holds great promise for the future of audio and video.

Stretchable display could be the basis of the next remotes

100 DVD on a single disc?

New “emotion” jacket adds realism to movies

The jacket is implanted with sensors and actuators and can provide amazing sensations in sync with the film. Chills, spine "tingling" and many other emotional stimulus can be felt by anyone wearing the jacket. Current research is using the jacket in reverse, this time to measure people's movements in response to video stimulus.

Our connected world is getting smaller

A U.N. report published today states that six in ten people (60%) of the world's population has a cell phone subscription and 23% are connected to the internet. The driving growth trend is coming from poor, developing countries. This 60% figure is up from just under 15% in 2002.
