I 2 S interface

Would it be possible, for a reasonable amount of money, to integrate an I 2 S receiver for the PWT output into an existing piece of digital equipment? My system is all digital (TacT) and the first thing that happens to a digital signal is it’s conversion to 96kHz native rate for the processing required for room correction and target response curve convolutions. The apparent jitter free advantages of the I 2 S interface should be an improvement over the SPDIF or AES protocol.

Thought I would chime in and say I too have an all digital (Tact) system; I suspect there are many Tact owners looking for EXACTLY this type of setup for the PWT.  Maybe if enough Tact owners “chime in” Paul or Rick can get an idea if there is a market for such a mod.

We would certainly be willing to share with Rick the format and technical details we use for the I2S interface in case he’s interested.  We don’t do modifications of products as a manufacturer ourselves, but Rick might be interested.  Good idea.

In fact, let me suggest that we would be interested in sharing the format and details of our I2S interface to any manufacturer so interested.  I personally would love to see other manufacturers adopt HDMI as a standard for delivering I2S and, as well, I can’t imagine any reason why other manufacturers wouldn’t choose I2S as the perfect interface (which it is).

I will be emailing “BOZ” at Tact to let him know of your offer.  My hope is he will want to implement the i2S interface on the input board.

And if he is indeed interested I would be more than happy to communicate with him and send the engineering details.

Cullen circuits will be offering upgrades for transports and DAC’s to add the HDMI i2s input or output.

Rick,

Would this be something you would consider doing on a Squeezebox device (Duet receiver - output)?  I really want to be able to interface with the PWD I2S input.

Thank you.

Seeing that I am quite fond of my Squeezebox home system, I’m wondering if there has been anymore thought on the I^2S mod to the Squeezebox products?  The PWD sounds like a great unit, but to take full advantage the bridge is needed.  If the Squzeebox product could provide I^2S output to the PWD would it be the same as the digital lens?

Don’t want to give up my Squeezebox for the rest of the house, but may have to to get the ultimate audio.  Maybe this is where the digital lens unit is needed.  Squeezebox>Lens>I^2S>PWD my guess is that server directly into the bridge would sound better.

Scervin,

Originally, I was interested in an I2S mod for my SB Duet, but this was before there was much known about the forthcoming Bridge.  With the Bridge as an option, modding the SB with I2S would be an unsuitable choice.  You have to figure that, whether it can even be done or not, the cost to mod the SB would likely be near the cost of buying the Bridge – which will undoubtedly sound superior.  Keep in mind that SqueezeCenter is only capable of supporting up to 24/96.

Hi, Kevin Carter and Dave Davenport of K&K Audio/Raleigh Audio market a DIY DAC board with an I2S input. At my request they have made available a receiver board for the PS Audio I2S on HDMI. I am currently using their DAC with my new PWT with the HDMI connection and the result is wonderful. If you have access to the I2S bus in your current equipment, it is possible that their receiver board could be adapted to provide an I2S input. I’ve attached photo of DAC and receiver board installed in my line stage. I guess there will be no image. Won’t upload my jpeg file.
