Is there an owner’s manual availalbe for the PWD yet that we can read while we’re waiting for delivery? Even if in draft form, it will help us get to know the PWD and bridge better before it arives.
It wasn’t on this thread, but what was the preferred format to rip the CD’s to the server for bets sonic performance? I can’t remember where I saw that. Until the bridge arrives I can get started on ripping my CD’s, at least.
OK, the PerfectWave Transport Quick Start Guide is up on the website and ready for download, the PWD will be later today. Go to the product page, and you’ll see the place to read it.
OK, that helps a little bit. Please let us know when the complete manual is on the webiste rather than the quick guide.
I’m still confused about something, though. Will the PWD (and bridge) be able to command the server to play a song, i.e., use the PWD touch screen to initiate the playback and select tracks? In your video you used the iPhone to start the music to play on the PWD. Any chance of using the PWDs screen to do that so all I have to do is buy a server?

Yes, that’s exactly how it will work. You can scroll through the front panel touch screen of the PWD once the Bridge is installed.
OK, thank you sir. That’ll help a lot. I’ve already printed the PWD quickstart manual for intense scrutiny.
The Buffalo LinkStation Mini looks like it’ll do fine for this: I’t only 5” x 3”, there are no fans, and it’ll hold 1 Tbyte. So I can rip at my desktop and bring the server to the living room.
Where’s the link for which is the best file format to use with the PWD? I could have sworn I saw that somewhere. . .
Coated MDF for the top cover material ? Any specific reasons and possible stability considerations with this choice ? Guess I’m a bit surprised here. Source players and most dated CD players only have coax, maybe the toslink, so an extra coax would have been worth consideration. However, the extra input on the bridge/lens will be nice, but will it be another I2S or other ?
MDF was chosen because I wanted to have the finest finish on top that is available. This is the same construction method as used on a grand piano. Multiple coats of paint are applied and then it goes through a half day of polishing on these huge buffing wheels. It’s an amazing process to get this mirror finish. What I wanted to avoid was plastic. This is a great way to go, there are no stability issues and it’ll give you a lifetime of pleasure.
Sorry for the newbie question, but I’m a bit confused by all the talk about not yet existing products.
I already own a DAC and music server.
I need something like the digital bridge with a digital out to my DAC (and with either a remote control or built in touch screen) to control music on my network.
If it also had a digital lens (or one was available separately) that would also be great.
Are these among the products being talked about?
Will any of these products have a word clock input (for synching clocks)?
Thanks

I see that this product utilizes an embedded iTunes server. Since iTunes is not compatible with flac, I assume this DNLA NAS would not work with flac files? My entire library is flac. I will not re-rip it again. Are there any DNLA NAS options that are flac compatible?
Update: I confirmed with Buffalo that the Linkstation Mini will NOT accept FLAC.
I need some alternatives. Does anyone know of FLAC compatible NAS devices?
ADDENDUM….Unless I’m wrong, any DNLA NAS - regardless of whether it has an embedded server (i.e.” ITunes), will suffice as a storage device. I hope this is right.

Unfortunately, the Bridge is currently available only for the PerfectWave DAC from PS. The Digital Lens is not scheduled to be a network device, so it is basically Digital in and Digital out. However, your music server probably has a digital output - this means that you could use your music server’s output and place that into the upcoming Digital Lens and take the output of the Lens into your DAC and improve the sound of your music server dramatically.
Paul - what kind of interface options do you expect with the Bridge? Artwork/coverflow type of interfaces offered by iTunes, Squeezecenter, Sooloos, etc.? I know you guys are thinking about a remote control solution of some kind, but if you’re sitting a little ways away from the PWD getting up each time to flip through the library is a less attractive option.
Paul,
Is there any chance that The Bridge could be offered with an optional S/PDIF Coax input in addition to the Ethernet input? It would allow someone with a digital source, such as a Wadia 170 iDock (as I have), to get the benefits of the Bridge’s digital lens.
In my setup the PWT, when it arrives, will be connected via HDMi to the PWD. The PWT will also be connected, via S/PDIF coax, to a Theta Digital DSPro Gen III D/A Processor w/HDCD upgrade for playing my HDCD discs. That combniation will benefit from the lens in the PWT. My Wadia 170 iDock is connected via S/PDIF coax to the PWD, but will not benefit from a lens. I plan to purchase a Bridge when it becomes available so I can eventually set up a NAS.

It’s possible certainly but not probable and here’s why. The access to the Bridge is through the interface which considers the Bridge a single entity with sub access of what the Bridge does. I am not sure we can separate out another input, to be converted from S/PDIF to I2S easily enough. I’ll ask the engineers but the product spec is pretty far along at this point.
