![]() Power Products > Power Director 3.5 Power Director More info Starting at just $995.00! Take advantage of all your system has to offer by improving the AC power feeding it.It's not enough to simply plug your equipment into the wall socket for power. You have to make sure that power is pure enough to allow your system to sing. Introducing the Power Director 3.5. This rack or shelf-mount beauty will power your entire system, provide 100% protection and will make major improvements to both audio and video systems. No single product on the market today can claim to improve and protect the entire system, at such an affordable price, as the PD 3.5. Based on three High Current Ultimate Outlets, five Power Port AC receptacles and the world’s best AC protection, the PD 3.5 is perfect for separating your system’s power needs into the three essential elements: analog, digital/video, power. Each High Current UO, built into the PD 3.5, has up to 40dB of noise rejection to clean and improve your equipment’s performance. These noise elimination circuits are built around giant common mode chokes, constructed on a huge hunk of magnetic material and wound with 10 gauge solid core copper. No other product can lay claim to the unparalleled performance of our High Current Ultimate Outlets and the PD 3.5 has three of them built in. ![]() The total system approach The Power Director is an entire systems' approach. Yes, you could have multiple Ultimate Outlets, Juice Bars and power cables, but the PD 3.5 packages all these products into one chassis and controls everything with a built in microprocessor. Once your system is connected and powered through the 3.5 everything you own will be protected, cleaned and improved. Triple Power Protection The PD 3.5 employs PS Audio's Total Power Protection system that relies on three forms of salvation: high speed clamping Tranzorbers, a magnetic disconnect circuit to make absolutely certain that nothing unwanted gets through the Director and huge MOV’s in case all else fails. The first line of defense is perhaps the best and quickest method of protection we have ever seen. Tranzorbers are high speed AC clamps that can act hundreds of thousands of times without ever degrading their performance (unlike a MOV). Tranzorbers react quickly and absolutely protect your equipment regardless of what surge or spike they are assaulted with. If the Tranzorber finds a surge or lightning strike that is big enough to destroy the Tranzorber, which is nearly impossible, a fast acting relay-based 20 amp circuit breaker opens up the AC line and disconnects your equipment from possible damage. As a last line of defense, we use multiple huge MOV’s to make sure that your equipment is 100% protected. MOV’s are what 99% of the surge market relies on as their primary defense and because their performance is degraded over time, we do not rely on them for protection, only backup. Before you make any decisions on what type of of protection you would trust the life your equipment to, consider that MOV’s are NOT reliable over time. Most of our competitors rely on MOV’s as their primary line of protection, so check and see before you make a purchasing decision. If the method of protection is not clearly stated, you can be assured it is probably based on an MOV. We would urge you to think twice about using one of these. In the unlikely event that a catastrophic surge damages either the Tranzorber or the backup MOV as well, the PD 3.5 will open it’s circuit breaker and you will not be able to power your equipment – but the equipment is safe. The protection devices in the 3.5 are built on an easily replaceable plug-in board that any customer can replace in the rare instance it should give its life to save your equipment. Inside the DirectorInside, there are three high current Ultimate Outlet circuits, each individually capable of delivering 20-amps of power that provide reduced output impedance at high frequencies. This can be a major benefit to noise reduction and great sonics or visual improvements. Each of the Ultimate Outlets is wound with heavy gauge pure copper wire and terminated in a network of Class X2 and Class Y2 film capacitors. Electrical zone and noise isolation is provided both in and out. This means that each of the three zones is isolated from each other, and from the equipment that each zone powers. This is important because digital devices as well as video and high power equipment generate noise and interference that will negatively affect the audio and video performance of other equipment sharing the same power source. The Power Director 3.5 solves this problem with our Ultimate Outlet technology inside. Each precision wound balun acts as a no-way gate for noise - both from the AC line as well as from the equipment itself. The 'gate' will not let noise past the Ultimate balun either from the equipment or from the line. ![]() Sonically, and visually, these circuits make more improvement to both the way your system sounds and looks than virtually any other system oriented device we have ever seen. Bar none! Using the Power Director 3.5 in the system The 3.5 can power the entire system or be used as its name implies, to direct power wherever you want in a safe and clean manner. So, you can use it to power equipment isolated on one of the three zones provided by the 3.5, or you can use the 3.5 to feed Power Plants or additional UO’s or Juice Bars as you see fit. The 3.5 has switched, un-switched and delayed turn on capabilities, user selectable from the rear panel. This allows you to have your source equipment turn on first, followed by your power amplifiers to avoid any nasty turn on “thumps” going through your speakers. Each of the three zones can be separately controlled to either turn on from the front panel power button, be on all the time regardless of what you do with the front panel power button, or you can command any zone to delay its turn on after you press the power button. There is also a 12 volt DC trigger on the rear of the 3.5 that can turn the Power Director on from any 12 volt source. This includes many receivers that produce 12 volts for this purpose, Crestron or any home automation or communication system on the market, or can be as simple as purchasing an off-the-shelf 12 volt “wall wart” power supply that provides this voltage when energized.CATV connections for your TV can run through the 3.5 to make sure they too are safe and clean. Power Ports on the rear Of course we wouldn’t think of building an AC power device without including the world’s best AC receptacle on the rear, the PS Power Port. There are five Power Ports on the rear of the PD 3.5, providing ten outlets of clean and protected power. There has never been anything like the 3.5 Take a look at the features and functions of the 3.5. Purchased separately, the High Current UO’s and the Power Ports alone exceed the $995 price tag of the PD 3.5. The Power Director 3.5 represents, perhaps, the best (maybe use “most affordable” or “ the PD 3.5 belongs to a line of products that represent the best….” I am afraid that if we call the PD 3.5 the best total system power option- we will take something away from our reference product in that line the PD 4.7.)total system power option on the market today. Certainly from a cleaning, safety, improved performance, (and value standpoint) the PD 3.5 stands alone in the world of high end audio and video. Check with your local PS Audio dealer today and give the 3.5 a try in your system. It is unmatched |
