Power

Turns the unit on/off. There is, in addition, a master power switch on the rear panel.

Mode

This button will perform will perform multiple functions on a Power Plant. Using the mode switch enables the user to adjust the output voltage, select sine waves or MultiWaves, turn the front panel display on or off, and measure how many watts the Power Plant is delivering to your equipment.

"Oh, I can't seem to feel where that noise floor is, just a pitch dark silence with the Power Plant .... beautiful music, like fire works over the darkest skies with amazing details." PA

The stock, out of the box, Power Plant series will measure the actual current being delivered to the load (your stereo system being powered by the Power Plant) in amperes. The display will then make an automatic calculation to convert the amperes into watts (amps times volts (120 or 240) = watts). The display will be read out directly in wattage. So, for instance, let us suppose that you are driving a preamplifier (20 watts), a CD transport (20 watts), and a tube D to A player (50 watts). The front panel display of the Power Plant would then read 90 watts (20 + 20 + 50).

Select Up/Down

This button set will select the frequencies available to the user. There are 20 frequencies available plus 9 MultiWave patterns, and a display to indicate which frequency or MultiWave pattern you are on. Labeled as Frequency on the front panel, selection results in different output frequencies being generated by the Power Plant. The frequencies will vary from 50 Hz, to 120 Hz in 20 steps. Frequency #1 is 50 Hz, frequency #2 is 55 Hz. We have even included 81 Hz for turntables. 60 Hz generates a perfect speed of 33 1/3 fopr the turntable, while 81 Hz generates the perfect 45 rpm. The advantage of using the Power Plant to provide perfectly synchronized line frequency to your turntable or tape recorder is enormous when it comes to maintaining perfectly accurate speed.

Higher frequencies will make a noticeable sonic improvement to the system's depth as will MultiWave.

Display

The PS Audio Power Plant has a display on the front panel. The display contains three elements:

  • Digital readout
  • Headroom current warning
  • Shut down indication
Digital Readout

All three models of the Power Plant have a three digit numeric readout that indicates the actual ouput frequency of the Power Plant. There are 20 selections of frequencies to choose from, from 50 Hz to 120 Hz.

Headroom current warning

The Power Plant has a yellow LED light that will illuminate when you reach your particular unit's prefered rated output, in watts current draw, at the output of the Power Plant. This will indicate to you that you have reached the maximum advisable number of units that can be attached to the output AC receptacles on thePower Plant.

Shut down indicator

Should the maximum wattage rating be exceeded by even a small amount, the Power Plant will automatically shut down operation and a red LED light will illuminate informing you of the Power Plant's decision to cease safe operations. You will then be prompted to unplug at least one device from the rear of the unit to decrease the load on the Power Plant before resuming operations by pushing the front panel power button.
