DVDs and HD broadcasts are breathtaking! Previously mediocre satellite broadcasts are significantly improved. There is a perception of increased resolution and sharpness. Depth of field is almost 3D like, contrast is spectacular and colors vibrant. Virtually every aspect of the picture is better, not by a little, but by a lot. Just for comparison I pulled the P1200 out and found the picture almost unwatchable. The P1200 will never come out of my system!' R Wilner

The P1200 Power Plant, now being shipped, is the largest of three models of Power Plant, a high end, extremely high powered AC generator that produces new line voltage used to power your equipment and, in so doing, make a huge sonic and visual difference.

The Power Plant provides complete protection from surges, lightning, noise, and eratic line behavior. The Power Plant's output is fully regulated, so it will always produce 120 volts AC regardless of how low or how high your line voltage drops or raises.

The Power Plants are NOT a filter or balanced transformer. These are actual AC generators that produce perfectly clean AC power under ANY conditions, even when the incoming AC is clipped or badly distorted - something no filter, power line conditioner, or balanced transformer can do.

The P1200 is intended for use with stereo power amplifiers up to 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms, or up to 900 watt mono block amplifiers (requiring the use of two P1200) or slightly lower wattage power amplifiers plus your low level devices such as, preamps, CD players, small power amps, DAC's, surround sound processors, video projectors, turntables, phono preamplifiers, tape recorders, DAT machines, DVD players, etc.

We strongly recommend that, if financial circumstances allow, you use the P1200 for the power amp, and the P300 for all the other gear mentioned above.

Power limitations of the P1200 are 1200 watts, total output. That is, with everything you connect up to the Power Plant, the total current requirements of all units combined should not exceed 1200 watts.

In recent testing of the P1200 prototypes, it is clear that the P1200 is capable of up to 2000 watts for brief periods of time, allowing you to connect up reasonably large power amplifiers that have dynamic musical demands that exceed the 1200 watt rating.

Front Panel

The front panel of the PS Audio P1200 Power Plant has 4 buttons.

  • Power
  • Mode
  • Select up
  • Select down
Power

Mode

This button will provide multiple functions on the P12000 model. The mode switch will activate the front panel display, the wattage meter, the MultiWave mode, the voltage select mode, and the on/off for the front panel display. For a more detailed explanation, see front panel.

Select Up/Down

This button set will select the frequencies or the MultiWave pattern available to the user. Power Plants can change their output frequencies, and in so doing, will provide one of the most important sonic and visual improvements to your equipment's performance ever.

In fact, the ability of the Power Plant to operate your equipment at a frequency that is higher than the nominal output frequency of the wall socket (50 Hz or 60 Hz) is one of the reasons the Power Plant is light years ahead of any other scheme to improve power on the market today. There are several new Power Plant-like devices appearing on the market, but none of these produces different frequencies, and none are balanced in their output.

There are 20 frequencies available, and a display to indicate which frequency you are on. Labeled as Power Factor on the front panel, selection results in different output frequencies being generated by the Power Plant. The 'factors' will vary from 50 Hz, to 120 Hz in 20 steps. Factor #1 is 50 Hz, factor #2 is 55 Hz. We have even included 81 Hz for turntables. 60 Hz generates a perfect speed of 33 1/3 fopr the turntable, while 81 Hz generates the perfect 45 rpm. The advantage of using the Power Plant to provide perfectly synchronized line frequency to your turntable or tape recorder is enormous when it comes to maintaining perfectly accurate speed.

Higher frequencies will make a noticeable sonic improvement to the system's depth.

Then, there is Multiwave. Every Power Plant comes with our patented MultiWave technology. This technology is a major step ahead of sine waves used to power your equipment. There are 9 MultiWave patterns available through the front panel controls.

Display

The PS Audio P1200 Power Plant has a display on the front panel. The display contains three elements:

  • Digital readout
  • Headroom current warning
  • Shut down indication
Digital readout

The P1200 has a three digit numeric readout that indicates the actual output frequency of the Power Plant. There are 10 selections of Power Factors, from 50 Hz to 120 Hz.

In addition, the front panel display will indicate the watts produced by the Power Plant, while it's feeding your equipment. For a more detailed explanation, see front panel.

Headroom current warning

The Power Plant has a yellow LED light that will illuminate when you reach 1000 watts current draw at the output of the Power Plant. This will indicate to you that you have reached the maximum advisable number of units that can be attached to the output AC receptacles on the Power Plant.

Shut down indicator

Should the 1200 watt rating be exceeded by even a small amount, the Power Plant will automatically shut down operation and a red LED light will illuminate informing you of the Power Plant's decision to cease safe operations. You will then be prompted to unplug at least one device from the rear of the unit to decrease the load on the Power Plant before resuming operations by pushing the front panel power button.

Rear Panel

The rear panel of the P1200 Power Plant has four elements:

  • Eight AC outlets
  • An AC inlet
  • A video pass through
  • Binding post for separate ground
AC Outlets

On the rear panel of the domestic PS Audio P1200 Power Plant, there are four PS Audio Power Port AC outlets and four Neutrik Power Cons.

On our export models, there are two styles of plugs available for 220 volt operation. These two styles include the German/European version known as the 'Schuko' plugs, plus we have included four of the excellent Neutrik Power Cons in addition to the four Schuko style.

For the UK market, Hong Kong, and British based systems, we offer four UK style shuttered connectors, along with four Neutrik Power Cons as well.

Each of the Euro and UK style 220 volt plug sets are available on our export models at a higher price. Please contact your distributor for pricing information on these models.

AC Inlet

The rear panel of the PS Audio P600 has a single high quality IEC AC inlet on our domestic models, and a high quality Neutrik Power Con on our export models.

Ground Binding Post

The rear panel of the PS Audio Power Plant has a ground binding post. This post is available for two purposes:

  • Accessing the third prong ground easily
  • Isolating the grounds on your AC outlets and using a separate ground wire.
The binding post is a convenient tie point for a turntable ground wire, or anything requiring you to easily connect up to earth ground as provided via the third wire ground in your house wiring system.

Ground isolation is the ultimate for best sound. If your are in a position to properly incorporate an outside ground stake, the binding post feature on the Power Plant can make a huge sonic difference. That is because, unfortunately, the ground on your AC outlets has noise and hash on it just like the AC signal itself. While the Power Plant will completely clean up the AC signal as advertised, it cannot (by law) touch the ground. For safety sake, we must leave the third wire ground connected to our equipment.

PS Audio and the Power Plant provide a solution to this problem, by allowing you to isolate the ground on the four AC outlets, located on the rear panel of the Power Plant (by removing an internal jumper), and then reconnecting the, now isolated, ground binding post to an outside ground stake that you install.
