What a wonderful time

We live in an amazing period in human evolution. Just think of the advances and changes you've witnessed within your lifetime.

In my short 68 years I've witnessed unimagined changes. I am typing this on one of them. You're reading this on another.

I still remember sitting in my father's 1940s automobile fascinated by the technology that brought two or three different radio stations into the car itself. In fact, my dad was so fascinated with the idea of listening to music in the car that his purchasing decision centered around the radio rather than the car's looks, comfort, or price (much to the horror of my mother).

The car radios in those early days were tube based, powered by electro-mechanical vibrating mechanisms to raise the car's 6 volts to the needed 50 or so. When you first turned the radio on there was a loud buzzing sound as the tubes warmed up and, after about a minute, music came out of the dashboard. Heady stuff.

Now, look at us. We carry the world in our pockets, DACs on USB sticks, wireless everything.

And we're on the verge of yet another tectonic shift. I don't quite know what it is, but I can feel it in my bones.

Something big's going to happen soon. It always does. The patterns repeat themselves.

It's a great time to be alive.
