Servo subs

Prev Next

There are many great subwoofers available today. Perhaps my favorites is REL out of England. But even as good as REL subs are, they don't quite live up to the Nth degree afforded by a properly designed servo version. Like those we made at Genesis in the 1990's.

That's always been a mystery to me why servo subs aren't more prevalent. And what's really interesting is that of the few out there using servo technology on the sub, not all of them work as well as they could. A good example is Velodyne. They make some great theater subs. They are servo controlled. But I prefer the REL over the Velodyne for music. So it's never quite as simple as one might expect.

I thought it might be interesting to spend a few days of posts explaining what a servo is, how it works and why it's a good idea.

Might prove to be interesting. See you tomorrow, where we'll learn how to accelerate!
