The Nest

In yesterday's post Dedicated Hardware we talked about the beauty of buying a product dedicated to a specific task - simply because it is designed to do one thing - and do it well.
Such a product is The Nest. The Nest is a home thermostat and while that may sound unexciting and completely unrelated to high-end audio, it is the coolest piece of kit to come along in a long time and exemplifies my comments on dedicated hardware.
It's expensive, it's unnecessary to our daily lives, it's a luxury and yet - and yet it's a product I want and will own - just because.
This product installs in minutes, connects to your WIFI network and manages everything related to temperature in your home and you can control it from anywhere in the world.
Take the word "temperature" out of the last sentence and replace it with "music" and you'll know exactly where we want to take our products into the future of high-end.
I have mine on order. There's a waiting list.
