Interesting divide

I've been noticing an interesting split in product direction. User interface vs. hardware.

In the first, UI, we focus on the experience of interacting with the music through a graphical interface like an iPad, phone, or computer. The hardware that makes all this happen tends to fade into the background.

In the second, kit, it is with the hardware itself we center our attention. The controls seem secondary.

Few who want a rich graphical interface are also desirous of a fancy box housing the brains of the operation.

And, likewise, those of us covetous of a beautiful metal sculpted instrument are less focused on its interface.

I haven't yet determined if this split has been with us all along, or if it is something new and emerging.
