Like Bose?

I travel a bit andinevitablysomeone asks me what I do for a living. I used to go into a long dissertation about high-end audio and our products - but at the end of my explanation the person would say "oh, like Bose?" Tired of explaining the difference between Lo-Fi and Hi-Fi to people - who probably don't care anyway - I now just tell people "I make stereos". It's easier.

I had been using the same line on my neighbors for a few years and one evening over dinner one of them asked me to go into detail about our business of "making stereos". I went into my passionate pitch about what we do and why we do it - thank goodness they didn't ask "like Bose?" - but one of them commented "that's great for some, but we have untrained ears and could never appreciate what you do."

Saying something like that puts the hair on the back of my neck up so Terri and I invited them over to PS for a listen with the promise they'd be able to hear a difference.

After theobligatoryfactory tour we set them in the listening room, dimmed the lights and played Cantate Domino's Oh Holy Night - a classic to be sure.

6 minutes later I turned the lights on and not one of them said a word. Our neighbor Judith turned to me with tears in her eyes.

"That was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. It was as if we were in the church."

I am always encouraged about what we do when I am reminded just how great a high-end system is.

It ain't "like Bose" but it sure is the real deal.
