Imagine the shock, the dropped jaws of centuries ago when the first symphony orchestra played live. It must have been a stunning event, one preceded by the pipe organ, the first truly big and loud musical instrument, though I imagine there must have been big horns that impressed people before that. Weren't the walls of Jericho blown down by horns?
But the symphony orchestra, introduced in the sixteenth century, must have been awe inspiring, filling an entire concert hall with rich sounds.
We can only hope to come close with our imitations.
