Bunch went out yesterday – I’ll have someone check. I believe those that did not should ship by Friday at the latest. Today nothing ships because of inventory but it should open back up tomorrow. Sorry.cry

ANYHOW:  also ordered the “Arnie Nudell Signature HDMI Cable” ; ) — it appears that the Pro is the same but for a Full Metal Jacket and a “Noble”-looking cable cover.  Hopefully get it today so it can burn for a bit.

I had the cable playing between PWT and PWD for 24 hours before checking it out in that set up. Definitely sounds different than the PS Audio HDMI AC-12 I use. Better? To me, at this point, no.

“Interesting sound”? What’s that mean?

Break in shouldn’t take more than a day I would guess, but mine had time on it from the engineering guys so I haven’t yet started with just a raw unit.

I am somewhat unimpressed with Arnie’s cable. It’s not broken in, but to my ears it’s a bit dull and lifeless compared to the stock one we’re shipping (or will be shipping).

I suspect he didn’t want to make any substantive comments about the sound because the DMP is straight out of the box.

I’m getting a handle on differences. It’s an “interesting difference” on first hearing between Redbook on the well-seasoned PWT and this new machine, and between SACD on my best current machine and this new machine. A little unsettling to hear the same material with significant differences in playback.

At the moment if you made me choose I would choose the old configurations. That’s a beloved sound and a very familiar one. BUT I only have over an hour on the machine, and I know better than to really be critical at this time. I’ll listen and comment when I have more time on the machine and the machine has been in use longer.

SACD and Blu-ray Pure Audio discs I have loaded have loaded and played quickly and easily enough.

Okay, one more quick comment and then I have to go off and do some grocery shopping and start dinner: I just heard some percussion by either Mtume or Don Alias on the Mobile Fidelity SACD of Miles Davis “On the Corner” that came so suddenly out of nowhere that I was startled (on music I know since ’74 or so).

That’s different in a very positive way. And the soundstage is opening up slowly and steadily. The Player is warming up.

As requested, here are multiple pictures of the unit being unboxed, for any of you not familiar with PS Audio equipment packaging.

Unboxing-1.jpgImage Enlarger

As usual, double boxed for protection.

Unboxing-2.jpgImage Enlarger

As with all recent PS Audio gear, well protected by being suspended between two layers of heavy plastic.

Unboxing-3.jpgImage Enlarger

Under the unit, the power cord and remote control.

Unboxing-4.jpgImage Enlarger

Everything in the carton.  I notice an HDMI cable.  Paul, is this the one you were telling us about or just one included for now to be complete?

Unboxing-5.jpgImage Enlarger

Protective cover over the top for protection.

Unboxing-6.jpgImage Enlarger

The new unit stacked on my PWT.  Looking forward to the comparison, although, I will be watching the World Series tonight as I type from NorthEast Ohio (Youngstown) Go Tribe.

By the way, as I read over the packing list, I see that I did not get the Manual.  Is that not available yet, or was the missed in the interest of getting the unit out to me ASAP?

Paul, are there any SACDs with artwork in the PS Audio database? Perhaps I have one. I’d like to verify that SACD artwork downloads.

So, the new transport reads CD-TEXT! Really cool addition. Unfortunately, it only appears to read the first track’s info and calls the next track ‘Track 2.’ Doesn’t matter if the unit is connected to the Internet or not.

-Pb

EDIT>> More importantly: how do you display artwork? I loaded a CD that has artwork in the PSA database (I know, because my PWT just downloaded that artwork). The DMP said it was downloading artwork, but I can’t figure out how to see it.

Also, what do the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the ‘now playing’ screen do? On other screens they access a setup function.

EDIT 2>> Nevermind about the artwork display, that seems to come on by itself after a little while. Very cool. Touch the artwork and the track info displays.

Well, so much for a protracted shoot-out between the PWT and the DMP.  It took about 15 seconds of listening to one of my favorite CD’s (Consuela Lee-Piano Voices, Mapleshade 08332) to understand what Paul has being saying about the improvement in Red Book CD’s with the DMP.  The tracks are all piano and drum duets.  Having played the piano for most of my life, I feel comfortable with its sound.  The improvement in tone is impressive.  There is much more of a sense of each individual piano key being struck.  The piano on this CD with the DMP compared to the PWT sounds much closer to the sound of the live piano in my living room.

No question I willing be sending in the PWT to complete the trade-in.

I checked the USB port on the front of the player.  That works great.  I have the Beatles set on USB.  The DMP was able to navigate through several directory layers to find both the FLAC and MP3 folders.  I selected the FLAC folder on the screen and it then displayed all the albums as a list.  Each album is also a folder on the USB.  Once I selected an album, each track of the album was then listed.  The FLAC files are 24 bit, 44.1hz.

Here is the set I have.

I tried one of my DVD-R data discs from Reference Recordings.  These are 24 bit 176.4 kHz.  That worked without a problem.  I did notice that each track listed showed the track number and the track title, compared to regular CD’s that just list the track titles.

Hey, Lonson, what BD did you play? I think you mentioned somewhere you had the new ‘Tales from Topographic Oceans.’ Try that and PM me.

I did try that one earlier. It didn’t read in this player, nor did it read in my universal player. It may be defective, I haven’t heard that one yet, just the cds in the set.

I played the Herbie Hancock Blu-ray Pure Audio disc. Without a problem.

No, but I do have the other Yes BDs and those play in my Oppo but not in the DMP.

Thanks Alan! It took you about as long as it took me. Good work! It is truly something amazing on CD. Thanks for posting.

Does yours play in other players? I have a few more to try in storage, but the DMP and my Denon won’t play it.

No, but I do have the other Yes BDs and those play in my Oppo but not in the DMP.

Thanks for letting me know PB. I have the others too, they play in my Denon, haven’t tried them in the DMP.
